Women in Art from Titian to Boldini: Major Exhibition in Brescia
Nearly 100 works spanning five centuries are on display at Palazzo Martinengo in Brescia in the exhibition 'Donne nell'Arte. Da Tiziano a Boldini', curated by Davide Dotti. The show is divided into eight sections, featuring masterpieces from private collections and provincial artists. Highlights include Titian's 'Penitent Magdalene' (c. 1558-63), exhibited for the first time from a German private collection, and works by Guercino, Luca Longhi, Francesco Cairo, and Giovanni Andrea De Ferrari. The portrait section ranges from Andrea Appiani's neoclassical 'Francesca Lechi' to Gaetano Bellei's early 20th-century 'Un colpo di vento', the show's symbol. A section on still lifes features Giovanna Garzoni and Fede Galizia, alongside Amanzia Guérrillot Inganni's 1860 ornithological and floral pendants. Themes of motherhood and daily life are explored through works by Ceruti and Gaetano Chierici. The exhibition concludes with Giovanni Boldini's modern, expressionist studies of femmes fatales.
