Wohnkomplex exhibition at Das Minsk explores Plattenbau life through East German art

The exhibition "Wohnkomplex: Art and Life in Plattenbau" is on display at Das Minsk in Potsdam until February 8, showcasing 50 pieces from 24 artists, primarily hailing from East Germany. This showcase delves into Plattenbau residential areas established during the 1960s that continue to exist after 1990. Noteworthy pieces include Wolfram Ebersbach's 1974 oil painting "Hausfassade," Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt's 1979 typewriter art "Kuben, Kästen, Käfige," and Sabine Moritz's poignant drawings of her neighborhood. Additional significant works are Peter Herrmann's 1979 painting "Kühe vor dem neuen Tor" and Harald Metzkes's 1984 oil "Aufbau von Marzahn." Henrike Naumann's 2012 installation "Triangular Stories" confronts the racist violence of the 1990s, while the exhibition highlights the need for more inclusive representations of marginalized communities in discussions about living conditions in Germany.
