WKRP in Cincinnati Becomes Real Radio Station After 50 Years

other · 2026-05-11

Nearly 50 years after the TV sitcom aired, WKRP in Cincinnati is now a real radio station in Cincinnati. A local FM station known as "The Oasis" acquired the WKRP call letters from a nonprofit radio station in Raleigh, North Carolina, which had auctioned them off as a fundraiser. To celebrate the launch, the station played the show's theme song for six straight hours. It will continue playing classic rock from the '60s through '80s, mirroring the sitcom's music. Actor Gary Sandy, who played program director Andy Travis on the show, recorded promos for the revived station.
