Winnipeg's Pantages Theatre Gets $15M for Performing Arts Centre
The provincial government of Manitoba has committed $15 million to revitalize the historic Pantages Playhouse Theatre, which has been closed since 2018, into the Pantages Playhouse Arts Centre. This 112-year-old venue, under the management of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) since 2011, will undergo renovations led by Number Ten Architectural Group. The initiative, a partnership between the WSO and the Performing Arts Consortium, is designed to establish a space for orchestral, jazz, and acoustic performances. The total project cost is projected to be $62 million, with a tentative opening slated for 2029. The WSO aims to secure $22 million from the federal government and anticipates $15 million from private contributions. Premier Wab Kinew described this as a crucial investment in both the arts and the revitalization of downtown.
