Wim Delvoye's First Swiss Retrospective at Museum Tinguely
During Art Basel's peak week, the Museum Tinguely in Basel opens the first major retrospective of Belgian artist Wim Delvoye in Switzerland. The exhibition features his most controversial work, Tim (2006-2008), a Swiss man whose back skin was tattooed by Delvoye over forty hours and later sold to a German collector who will take full possession upon the man's death. The show also highlights the Cloaca series, a machine that, when fed food, produces feces through a simulated digestive process. Delvoye cites Swiss artist Jean Tinguely as an influence, but in an interview with The Art Newspaper he clarifies his work references a different industrial revolution happening today, one driven by biotechnology and biogenetics. The retrospective covers the last twenty-five years of Delvoye's career and runs from June 14, 2017, to January 1, 2018.
