William Kentridge's Sound Installation at Palazzo Branciforte in Palermo

exhibition · 2026-04-27

From October 8, 2023, to January 12, 2024, the Palazzo Branciforte in Palermo will host "You Whom I Could Not Save," an exhibition by South African artist William Kentridge, born in 1955. The showcase features a range of works, including bronze sculptures, tapestries, a sound installation, the video "Sibyl" (2020), and 16 new drawings inspired by a Sicilian ledger from 1828. Curated by Giulia Ingarao and Alessandra Buccheri, with direction from Antonio Leone of ruber.contemporanea, the event is backed by Fondazione Sicilia. The opening aligns with Giornata del Contemporaneo and will include eight megaphones playing music by Nhlanhla Mahlangu, accompanied by texts in Nguni languages. The drawings reflect the building's past as a pawnbroker's shop, exploring themes of transience and incorporating a quote from Vladimir Mayakovsky.
