Willem Weismann Wins East London Painting Prize with £10,000 Award and Solo Exhibition
Willem Weismann, a 38-year-old artist based in Tower Hamlets, has been named the recipient of the East London Painting Prize. His winning work, 'Library Guide,' explores connections between books and painting as physical objects in a digital era. The prize includes a £10,000 award and a solo exhibition at the Nunnery Gallery this autumn, marking Weismann's first career solo show. Established in 2014 by Foundation for FutureLondon and Bow Arts Trust with support from the Goldhill Family and Zabludowicz Collection, the prize celebrates painting diversity in East London boroughs. A jury featuring artist Phoebe Unwin, ArtReview Deputy Editor Oliver Basciano, Zabludowicz Collection Director Elizabeth Neilson, and Launchpad founder Sarah Elson selected Weismann from 23 shortlisted artists. The shortlist exhibition runs at the Rum Factory through 17 May.
