Willem De Haan stacks 12 tents vertically in Dutch countryside installation

Dutch artist Willem De Haan's 'Highrise Campsite: Nature City' is an eleven-metre-high scaffold structure holding twelve camping tents, first shown at IJsselbiënnale 2023 beside the IJssel river. The installation critiques land scarcity and spatial efficiency by applying agricultural logic to recreational camping, stacking tents like apartments. Built from standard scaffolding, camping gear, and lights, it later traveled to Amsterdam's NDSM district. De Haan's work inserts uncanny structures into everyday landscapes, questioning whether the drive to maximize space follows us even into nature.
