WilkinsonEyre Completes CIBC Square with Elevated Park in Toronto

WilkinsonEyre has completed CIBC Square, a two-tower office complex in Toronto's Financial District linked by an elevated one-acre park spanning active rail tracks. The project, developed by Ivanhoé Cambridge and Hines, includes a ground-floor GO bus terminal and is anchored by tenants CIBC, Microsoft, and Boston Consulting Group. The London-based firm, known for infrastructure work like the Elizabeth Line and Toronto's Eaton Centre Bridge, designed the towers with a distinctive faceted façade featuring 10-storey diamond patterns to break from the city's typical glass boxes. The park, landscaped by Public Work, includes sinuous wooden benches, a hill with bleacher seating, and a 20-metre-tall tree sculpture "New Amalgam" by Roxy Paine. A winter skating rink is planned. The south tower's lobby features travertine cladding and backlit artworks by Steve Driscoll depicting Canada's boreal forest. The project aims to extend the financial core southward while creating a public amenity that heals the rail corridor scar. However, access stairs are noted as somewhat uninviting, and the park remains a "secret garden" for now.
