Wild Uplands exhibition transforms Penistone Hill with site-specific works exploring landscape as collaborator
Curated by Shanaz Gulzar, the outdoor exhibition Wild Uplands is on display at Penistone Hill Country Park in West Yorkshire until 12 October. This event showcases site-specific pieces from artists including Monira Al Qadiri, Meherunnisa Asad in collaboration with Studio Lél, Vanessa da Silva, and Steve Messam, all interacting with the landscape of a former quarry close to Haworth. Da Silva's Muamba Posy features metallic sculptures that reflect the site's historical context, while Asad's 99 Butterflies, crafted from pink marble, pays tribute to displaced artisans. Messam's Tower highlights Bradford's wool industry, and Al Qadiri's The Children of Smokeless Fire explores perception. Additionally, Opera North presents Earth and Sky, an immersive soundwalk focusing on memory and the relationship between humans and nature.
