WifiTapestry: an artwork that comes alive with Wi-Fi signals
Dutch artist Richard Vijgen has created WifiTapestry, an installation that visualizes invisible Wi-Fi radio frequencies. The work uses a controller that monitors traffic on 13 channels of the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi spectrum. When a signal is detected, the controller sends an impulse to a system that heats the fabric, causing it to move as if alive. Vijgen compares the effect to the Shroud of Turin, describing data flows appearing as visible traces from another dimension before gradually disappearing. The project aims to make perceptible the constant signals emitted by phones, computers, tablets, printers, and other devices.
