WiChair: Alina Schnizler's Sustainable Task Chair for Wilkhahn

architecture-design · 2026-05-26

Designer Alina Schnizler has created the WiChair task chair for German brand Wilkhahn, combining springy steel and FSC-certified plywood in a functional frame. The design features a curved torsion-elastic steel bracket and moulded plywood seat and backrest, allowing natural movement in all directions. A weight adjustment mechanism under the seat alters responsiveness via a knob and spring. The chair minimizes components to 34, avoids plastic except for optional foam cushioning, and is designed for easy repair and recycling. Five painted steel colors (Blush Pink, Soft Yellow, Mint Green, Light Grey, Black) highlight the S-curve bracket. Wilkhahn describes it as a future-proof seating solution harmonizing material responsibility, timeless design, and innovative functionality. Dimensions: 635 x 1625.6 x 1219.2 mm.
