Whitney Museum Explores Mexican Muralists' Impact on US Art
The Whitney Museum in New York presents 'Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art, 1925–1945', an exhibition rediscovering the powerful creativity of early 20th-century Mexican muralists and their influence on American art. The show brings together mural works by the 'three greats'—Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros—alongside pieces by Rufino Tamayo, Alfredo Ramos Martínez, Miguel Covarrubias, Frida Kahlo, and photographs by Tina Modotti. It also includes documentation of these artists' work in the United States. The influence of Mexican creators on American figures is expressed through a visual dialogue with works by Jackson Pollock, Philip Guston, Marion Greenwood, Seymour Fogel, and others. The exhibition runs until May 17, 2020.
