Whitney Houston Biopic Arrives in Theaters December 22

A new biopic titled "Whitney: una Voce diventata Leggenda" (Whitney: A Voice Become Legend) will be released on December 22 by Sony Pictures Italia. Directed by Kasi Lemmons and written by Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten, the film stars Naomi Ackie as Whitney Houston, with Stanley Tucci, Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie, Nafessa Williams, and Clarke Peters in supporting roles. The film follows Houston's life from her early years singing gospel with her mother, a backup vocalist for Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin, through her rise to fame with her 1985 self-titled debut album, her iconic role in "The Bodyguard" (1992) opposite Kevin Costner, and her later struggles with depression, eating disorders, and drug abuse. Houston died on February 11, 2012, from drowning in a bathtub due to drug and antidepressant use. This is the third film about Houston, following Nick Broomfield's 2017 documentary "Whitney: Can I Be Me" and Kevin MacDonald's 2018 film "Whitney Houston – Stella senza cielo."
