Whitney Biennial 2026 Announces 56 Participants Across 25 States and Beyond

exhibition · 2026-04-20

The Whitney Museum of American Art has revealed the 56 artists, pairs, and groups chosen for its 82nd Biennial, which will kick off on March 8, 2026. Curated by Marcela Guerrero and Drew Sawyer, the exhibition will fill the museum's galleries and include performances and public events. After visiting over 300 studios, Sawyer mentioned that the selected artists delve into 'relationality,' focusing on various infrastructures from places like Afghanistan, Chile, Iraq, and Puerto Rico, among others connected to U.S. influence. Guerrero noted the Biennial's focus on 'networks of kinships.' This will be the first Biennial with free admission for visitors aged 25 and under. Featured artists include Basel Abbas & Ruanne Abou-Rahme, Andrea Fraser, and others.
