White Cube London Hosts First UK Solo Exhibition of Pier Paolo Calzolari's Sculptures

exhibition · 2026-05-05

White Cube in London will present the first solo exhibition in the United Kingdom dedicated entirely to the sculptural work of Italian artist Pier Paolo Calzolari (born Bologna, 1943), opening on March 20, 2018. Curated by Mathieu Paris, the show features installations from the 1970s and 1980s, tracing the artist's career and his exploration of materials such as neon, dry leaves, ice, lead, and copper. Calzolari's practice, rooted in Arte Povera, focuses on transformative processes and the concept of space, balancing between life and death, presence and absence, materiality and dissolution. The exhibition runs from March 21 to May 12, 2018, at White Cube Mason's Yard. Calzolari returns to London after his participation in the historic exhibition "Zero to Infinity: Arte Povera 1962-1972" at Tate Modern in 2001.
