West Australian Ballet's Dracula production tours with dual Counts and recorded score
West Australian Ballet and Queensland Ballet's co-production of Dracula features two dancers portraying Count Dracula: Oscar Valdés as Young Count Dracula and Ludovico Di Ubaldo as Old Count Dracula. The ballet will be performed at Adelaide Festival Theatre from 17 to 22 April 2026, followed by His Majesty's Theatre in Perth from 15 to 30 May 2026. Choreography by Krzysztof Pastor blends classical and contemporary styles. Sets and costumes designed by Phil R Daniels and Charles Cusick Smith create a gothic atmosphere with towering structures and period aesthetics. While the Perth performances will feature live music by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra under conductor Jessica Gethin, the Adelaide run uses a recorded version. Principal dancers include Jurgen Rahimi as Jonathan Harker, Mayume Noguromi and Chihiro Nomura as Lucy Westenra and Elizabeth, with Juan Carlos Osma as Dr Jack Seward and Jesse Homes as Renfield. The production marks West Australian Ballet's first Adelaide appearance in ten years. Based on Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, the ballet utilizes Wojciech Kilar's score, originally composed for Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 film adaptation.
