other · 2026-05-04

Wes Anderson's stop-motion animated film Isle of Dogs won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 68th Berlinale. Set in a fictional Japanese city in 2037, the story follows 12-year-old Atari Kobayashi who searches for his dog Spots after the mayor exiles all dogs to Trash Island. The film marks Anderson's second stop-motion feature after Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009). Co-written with Jason Schwartzman and Roman Coppola, it blends political themes of persecution and resistance with visual references to Japanese art, including kabuki theatre, Hokusai landscapes, and films by Miyazaki, Ozu, and Kurosawa. The Italian release is scheduled for May 17, 2018.
