Wes Anderson and Juman Malouf Curate Spitzmaus Sarcophagus at Fondazione Prada

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Wes Anderson and Juman Malouf have curated 'Il Sarcofago di Spitzmaus e altri tesori' at Fondazione Prada in Milan, a selection of 537 objects from the Kunsthistorisches and Naturhistorisches museums of Vienna. The exhibition, previously shown at Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna a year ago, is presented in the Podium space, designed as a ready-made exhibition display. It features a 4th-century BC Egyptian wooden sarcophagus containing a shrew mummy, juxtaposed with Roman sculptures, Greco-Roman paintings, Renaissance works, and a portrait of Isabella d'Este by Rubens. The curators, Mario Mainetti and Jasper Sharp, also oversaw the Vienna edition. The exhibition references the Kunsthistorisches Museum at Ambras Castle in Innsbruck, designed in 1570 by Italian architect Giovanni Battista Guarienti for Archduke Ferdinand II of Habsburg. The project explores themes of collection and cataloging, offering a non-chronological journey through cultural periods. A Titian portrait of the Elector of Saxony from the mid-16th century is among the highlights.
