Wendy Wheeler to Discuss Biosemiotics and Art at ArtReview Bar
A conversation between Wendy Wheeler and Nick Hackworth will explore biosemiotics and its implications for art on Wednesday 11 October at 7pm. The event takes place at ArtReview Bar on Honduras Street in London. Biosemiotics, derived from Greek terms for life and sign, examines how meaning and purpose permeate both natural and cultural realms. This interdisciplinary field challenges traditional distinctions between nature and culture by analyzing their shared use of sign relations. Wheeler, an Emeritus Professor at London Metropolitan University, draws on the work of Charles Sanders Peirce and Jakob von Uexküll in her research. Her 2016 book, Expecting the Earth: Life/Culture/Biosemiotics, represents her latest contributions to the subject. Hackworth serves as Creative Director of Modern Forms. Attendance requires an RSVP sent to rsvp@artreview.com.
