Wendy Red Star Curates Indigenous Photography Exhibition at Blanton Museum
Wendy Red Star, an artist from the Apsáalooke tribe, has put together a fascinating exhibition titled Native America: In Translation at the Blanton Museum of Art. This display includes nine Indigenous artists exploring contemporary themes of memory, identity, and the history of photography. It will be open until January 5 and features works from well-known figures like Rebecca Belmore, Koyoltzintli, and Martine Gutierrez. Red Star sees this exhibition as a "road map" for up-and-coming Native artists to share their stories. Inspired by her role editing Aperture magazine’s Native America issue, she tackles issues such as gender and self-representation. Plus, she’s working on a solo show about Chief Plenty Coups for 2026 at the National Portrait Gallery in D.C.
