Week in wildlife: viral sea lion, puffin record, and hedgehog GPS

A viral Steller sea lion nicknamed Chonkers has become an unofficial mascot in San Francisco, California, US, after being spotted at Pier 39 among California sea lions. In the Farne Islands, UK, the National Trust has relaunched 'puffin-cams' for a second year to livestream the nesting of around 200,000 seabirds. Skomer Island, Wales, recorded a record 52,019 puffins this year, a surprise after seabird die-offs in southern Europe. A GPS tracking project for hedgehogs has launched in Northern Ireland, led by conservation charity Ulster Wildlife, to study nocturnal behaviors.
