Wasted Rita's 'Funeral of the Patriarchy' at Outdoor Festival Rome

Portuguese artist Wasted Rita, known for her text-based conceptual works and blog Rita Bored, is participating in the eighth edition of the Outdoor Festival in Rome, running until May 12, 2018, at the Mattatoio in Testaccio. The festival, themed 'Heritage,' explores popular culture through international influences, mass media, and social networks. Curated by Antonella di Lullo and Christian Omodeo in collaboration with the architecture collective Orizzontale, the festival features four thematic routes: Disobedience, Lighspeed, Retromania, and Total Recall. Wasted Rita's work, 'The Funeral of the Patriarchy,' is part of the Disobedience route and consists of a floral crown symbolizing the diminishing influence of patriarchal traditions on contemporary generations. The artist, who holds a degree in communication design, created her blog in 2011 to archive her prolific output, gaining recognition that led to an invitation from Banksy to participate in the Dismaland project. At Dismaland, she exhibited messages addressing women, contemporary society, and media invasiveness. For the Outdoor Festival, she was invited by curator Christian Omodeo and was enthusiastic about the theme. The festival also includes sections on Art, Music, Television, Conferences, and a Market of contemporary makers.
