Warhol's Factory Comes to Rochdale in One-Day Side-by-Side Festival Event

On Thursday, 13 August, Andy Warhol's artworks were presented in Rochdale inside a specialist fine art transport vehicle parked on Rochdale Town Hall Square, as part of the annual Side-by-Side Festival organized by Touchstones Rochdale. The event was a collaboration with ARTIST ROOMS, a touring collection of modern and contemporary art jointly owned by Tate and the National Galleries of Scotland. The initiative aims to make art accessible to communities outside traditional gallery settings, offering a memorable encounter. Visitors had the opportunity to view a selection of Warhol's sketches, prints, and photographs, including 'Self-Portrait with Skull' (1978) and 'Self-Portrait with Platinum Bouffant Wig' (1981). ARTIST ROOMS is a flagship programme that tours significant modern and contemporary art across the UK, partnering with various organizations in both urban and rural areas. The one-day-only experience brought Warhol's iconic works to Rochdale, emphasizing the importance of bringing art to diverse audiences.
