Warhol. El arte mecánico at CaixaForum Madrid
CaixaForum Madrid presents 'Warhol. El arte mecánico', a comprehensive exhibition of 348 works covering Andy Warhol's entire career, from his early commercial illustrations to his iconic Pop Art. Curated by José Lebrero, director of the Museo Picasso de Málaga, the show includes loans from the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, MoMA New York, Tate London, and Centre Pompidou Paris, as well as private collections. The Madrid iteration adds works not seen in Barcelona: 'Single Elvis' (1964), 'Self-Portrait' (1966), 'Most Wanted Men No. 1', and 'The Souper Dress' from the Museo del Traje in Madrid. The exhibition traces Warhol's evolution from graphic designer to master of serial art, featuring paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, silkscreens, installations, artist books, films, and documentary material. Highlights include 'Before and After 2' (1961) from MoMA, exploring ideals of beauty, and a section on Warhol's early work for Harper's Bazaar, Glamour, Vogue, and Tiffany & Co. The show also recalls Warhol's 1983 visit to Madrid, where his exhibition at Fernando Vijande gallery left a lasting impact on the Movida generation, including Pedro Almodóvar, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, and Alaska. On April 13, CaixaForum hosts a happening inspired by The Silver Factory. The exhibition runs until May 6, 2018.
