WANS activist coalition denounces Knight Landesman's continued Artforum ownership and legal battle with former staffer
The activist group We Are Not Surprised (WANS) has taken issue with Knight Landesman's position as co-owner of Artforum magazine, particularly criticizing its attempts to dismiss a lawsuit filed by former employee Amanda Schmitt, who has accused Landesman of sexual harassment. Established in October 2017 following numerous allegations against Landesman, WANS is calling for a boycott of Artforum until Landesman is ousted and the magazine retracts its motion to dismiss Schmitt's lawsuit. They contend that Artforum's actions are at odds with its advocacy for feminist issues. Although Landesman has stepped down as co-publisher, he still holds ownership. Editor-in-chief Michelle Kuo has resigned and has been succeeded by David Velasco. WANS encourages supporters to share their statement publicly to show their involvement in the boycott.
