Wannenes to Auction European Paintings from 15th to 19th Century

Wannenes will hold an auction of Old Master and 19th-century paintings on May 27 at Villa Carrega Cataldi in Genoa. The sale spans five centuries of European painting, from the 1400s to the early 1900s. The first part features Old Masters, including Gaetano Gandolfi's 'Riposo nella fuga in Egitto' (est. €60,000-90,000) and Giuseppe Cesari's 'Riposo dalla fuga in Egitto' (est. €50,000-80,000). Luca Carlevarijs's 'Veduta di porto mediterraneo' (est. €30,000-50,000) and Alessandro Tiarini's 'Tancredi e Clorinda' (est. €15,000-26,000) are also offered. A 15th-century panel by Michele Giambono depicting Saint Stephen is estimated at €10,000-15,000. The second part focuses on 19th-century European painting, from Romanticism to Divisionism. Rosanna Nobilitato, head of the 19th-century paintings department, highlights Gioacchino Toma's 'Visita del Vescovo ai carcerati' (est. €10,000-15,000) as a rediscovered masterpiece.
