Wannenes Milan Auction Features Rare Sèvres Porcelain Fireplace Garniture
Wannenes will hold an auction titled 'Maioliche e Porcellane europee' on May 20 in Milan, with lot viewing from May 17 to 19. The highlight is a rare Sèvres polychrome porcelain fireplace garniture from circa 1760, comprising one 'hollandais' vase and two 'hollandais nouveau' vases (lot 382), decorated by Jean-Baptiste Tandart, estimated at €80,000–100,000. The sale includes Renaissance maiolica from Italian workshops in Venice, Pesaro, Urbino, Deruta, Casteldurante, Faenza, and Gubbio. A notable Deruta group from a Milanese collection features a 'Ritratto di Bella' inspired by the Duke of Urbino series (lot 329, estimate €1,600–1,800). A Deruta lustred parade dish from the early 16th century (lot 326, estimate €1,800–2,200) depicts a hunting scene. Ginori offers a polychrome porcelain coffee pot decorated in Sèvres style with roses (lot 353, circa 1780–90, estimate €250–500). Porcelain from Vinovo kilns and a Meissen tureen with stand (lot 380, circa 1763–64, based on a Vincennes-Sèvres model by Jean-Claude Duplessis, estimate €3,000–4,000) are also featured. A 1927 Richard Ginori polychrome porcelain bowl with Gio Ponti's 'Pellegrino di Montesanto' motif (lot 407, estimate €3,000–4,000) completes the sale.
