Wang Yuxiang's transparent metro car invades Supernova in Rome
Chinese artist Wang Yuxiang presents a solo exhibition at Supernova in Rome, curated by Nicolò Giacomazzi and running until October 27. Titled 'Lungo il peso che ho perduto', the show features three site-specific works exploring the relationship between architecture and space, temperature and humidity. The centerpiece, 'Il cavallo sogna la nave' (2025), is a full-scale metro carriage made of glass and metal, installed under a brick vault in Trastevere. Every three minutes, fans lift mica dust from the floor, illuminated by spotlights to create a shimmering smoke-like energy flow. A small diptych painting depicts a horse dreaming of a ship, symbolically linking the carriage to a bronze sculpture in the underground crypt, also titled 'Lungo il peso che ho perduto' (2025), created during a residency at Fonderia Battaglia in Milan. The sculpture, inspired by an inverted succulent flower (Epiphyllum or Queen of the Night), reacts to ambient humidity by melting artificially frozen metal, dripping like stalactites. The work references the Chinese concept of Yaufen, meaning 'to have destiny without a destiny', describing a human condition of 'necessity in chance'. The exhibition is the latest in a series of emerging artist shows curated by Giacomazzi, reinforcing Supernova's reputation as an innovative non-profit space in dialogue with the international art scene.
