Walter Salles' 'I'm Still Here' Wins Golden Globe, Earns Three Oscar Nominations
Walter Salles' film 'I'm Still Here' (original title: 'Io sono ancora qui') premiered in competition at the 81st Venice Film Festival, winning the award for Best Screenplay. The film also earned Fernanda Torres the Golden Globe for Best Actress and received three Oscar nominations for 2025: Best Picture, Best International Feature, and Best Actress. The movie is based on Marcelo Rubens Paiva's memoir and follows Eunice Paiva, a mother of five whose husband Rubens was disappeared by the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964–1985). After the violence, she reinvented herself as a lawyer and human rights activist. Salles noted that the story is both personal—he knew the Paiva family—and urgent given Brazil's recent political shifts. Fernanda Torres, daughter of actress Fernanda Montenegro, spent a year embodying Eunice Paiva. The film will be released in Italian theaters on January 30 via BIM Distribuzione.
