Walter Chiapponi Appointed Creative Director of Blumarine

Walter Chiapponi has been named the new creative director of Blumarine, succeeding Nicola Brognano who parted ways with the brand in October 2023. Chiapponi, a graduate of the Istituto Europeo di Design, began his career in the 1990s with Alessandro Dell'Acqua and has since collaborated with Givenchy, Valentino, Gucci, Miu Miu, Bottega Veneta, and most recently Tod's. His approach emphasizes garment construction and respect for each brand's heritage. Marco Marchi, sole administrator of Eccellenze Italiane (Blumarine's parent holding), expressed confidence that Chiapponi's international talent and stylistic sensitivity will revitalize the brand while honoring its legacy. Blumarine, founded by Anna Molinari, is known for its sensual, Lolita-esque aesthetic featuring lace, corsets, and floral dresses. Under Brognano, the brand shifted toward a 2000s-inspired style with low-rise waists, miniskirts, and nude looks. Chiapponi aims to introduce a concept of femininity defined by lightness and creativity, stating his desire to embrace new, exciting horizons. The brand has previously collaborated with photographers Helmut Newton and Paolo Roversi.
