Wallen Mapondera Solo Exhibition at Galerie Mitterrand, Paris

Galerie Mitterrand in Paris is presenting a solo exhibition of Zimbabwean artist Wallen Mapondera, featuring a new series of paintings. The exhibition runs from September 10 to October 10, 2026, at the gallery's Saint-Honoré space at 95 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, 75008 Paris. Born in Harare in 1985, where he continues to live and work, Mapondera has developed an internationally recognized practice that explores themes of memory, resilience, identity, and transformation through a distinctive visual language deeply rooted in Zimbabwe's history and culture. Although primarily known for his sculptural assemblages made from recycled materials, this exhibition highlights his translation of that conceptual richness and material interest into painting. His work, informed by personal narratives, artisanal craftsmanship, and the social and political realities of his country, examines how materials, symbols, and lived experiences shape individual and collective identities, while also exploring the connections between memory, territory, and transmission.
