Wall Eyes: Italian and African Art Dialogue Travels from South Africa to Rome
There's this exhibition called 'Wall Eyes. Looking at Italy and Africa' that’s part of a project by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which aims to foster conversations between Italy and sub-Saharan Africa, initiated in 2019. Ilaria Bernardi curated the show, featuring ten Italian artists like Rä di Martino and Silvia Giambrone, and six African artists including Lhola Amira and Bronwyn Katz. It focuses on our connection with nature, the preservation of ancient traditions often linked to women, and the tension between tradition and globalization. It opened at Keyes Art Mile in Johannesburg from October 3 to November 7, 2019, then moved to 6 Spin Street in Cape Town and ended at Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. Local partners included Goodman Gallery and A4 Art Foundation, and a catalogue was published by Prinp editore in 2019.
