Walk & Talk Festival 2019 in the Azores prioritizes social exchange over conventional art display

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the 2019 Walk & Talk festival in the Azores prioritized immersive experiences rather than conventional exhibitions. Organized by Porto-based Talkie Walkie for €15, the festival featured a guided tour of the Sociedade Corretora tuna cannery by Pedro Pascoal de Melo, visits to a former nunnery, Vila Franca do Campo, and a private residence by Pedro Mauricio Borges. Artists in residence included Abbas Akhavan, Alice dos Reis, and Danny Bracken. Noteworthy installations featured Miguel C. Tavares and José Alberto Gomes' East Atlantic at Arquipélago and Mónica de Miranda's In(sul)ar in a shopping center. The event highlighted storytelling and social interaction, with discussions surrounding Azorean myths and the 1536 Portuguese Inquisition. The online exclusive was published on 12 July 2019.
