Walid Raad's 'Cotton under my feet' Blends Performance and Museum Tour at Kunsthaus Zürich

exhibition · 2026-04-23

From 16 August to 3 November 2024, 'Cotton under my feet: The Zurich chapter' by Walid Raad will be showcased at Kunsthaus Zürich and Zürcher Theater Spektakel. This initiative features a performance where Raad leads attendees through the Kunsthaus collection, marking a historic partnership between the two venues. The project critiques the function of museums in the contemporary era and delves into artistic narratives, beginning with the Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, which was sold to Spain in 1993. Raad's pieces are displayed alongside objects from Thyssen-Bornemisza and Kunsthaus, tackling themes of slavery, racism, and the Cold War. Selected walkthroughs will occur on specific dates, with artist discussions scheduled for 25 August and 13 October. Audioguides will be provided in various languages. Raad (b. 1967, Lebanon) focuses on the influence of violence on art.
