Wael Shawky's 'I am Hymns of the New Temples' at Sfeir-Semler Gallery
Wael Shawky, the Egyptian artist chosen to represent Egypt at the 2024 Venice Biennale, is showcasing his solo exhibition titled 'I am Hymns of the New Temples' at the Sfeir-Semler Gallery in Beirut. This exhibition, which marks its debut in the MENA region, features a blend of film, sculptures, paintings, and installations. The centerpiece is a one-hour film created for the Pompeii Commitment. Archaeological Matters program by the Pompeii Archaeological Park (PAP), which premiered in Pompeii in 2023. Shawky, who won the PAC-Plan for Contemporary Art tender in 2020 with support from the Italian Ministry of Culture and PAP, draws inspiration from ancient mythologies. The exhibition will be open until 17 February.
