W Sardinia – Poltu Quatu: A New Era for W Hotels

architecture-design · 2026-08-10

W Hotels has opened its third Italian property, W Sardinia – Poltu Quatu, marking a significant evolution for the brand. Designed by Meyer Davis with architecture by DE.TALES, the hotel is located in the village of Poltu Quatu on Sardinia's northeast coast, between Porto Cervo and Baia Sardinia. The property departs from W's traditional dark, lacquered glamour, instead embracing a design rooted in the local landscape, with whitewashed buildings, natural textures, and a palette inspired by the coastline. The 157 guestrooms and suites feature sand, stone, textured white walls, sun-washed wood, and marine blues. Art plays a key role: an outdoor sculpture by Sardinian artist Nicola Filia, a ceramic wall by Luca Scassellati, and works by local artists including Walter Usai, Fabrizio Sanna, Cinzia Murgia, and Giuseppe Chironi. The hotel's restaurant, TANIT, is named after the ancient goddess of abundance. Off-property programming includes ceramic workshops, pasta-making sessions, and guided hikes. This opening is part of a broader recalibration for W Hotels, focusing on design, local culture, and food. In Italy, W Rome occupies two 19th-century palazzos near the Spanish Steps, and W Florence is set in Lando Bartoli's former Grand Hotel Majestic, a 1968 rationalist-modernist landmark. W Sardinia demonstrates the brand's new direction of letting the setting dictate the design.
