W Magazine's September 2003 issue features a 40-page portfolio of Kate Moss created by multiple artists and photographers. The project includes works by painters Chuck Close, Lucian Freud, and Alex Katz, who have all depicted the model. Close's unflattering photographic portraits emphasize raw details beneath beauty industry surfaces, while Freud completed a painting of Moss during her pregnancy with uncharacteristically smooth brushwork. Alex Katz, a longtime admirer, finds Moss's ordinary quality extraordinary. The portfolio also includes contributions from Lisa Yuskavage, who photographed Moss nude with bead panties, and Inez van Lamsweerde of the duo Inez & Vinoodh, who created one of nine variant covers for the issue.
