Vuslat Doğan Sabancı's 'Emanet/Troy' Opens at Troy Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The exhibition 'Emanet/Troy' by Turkish multidisciplinary artist Vuslat Doğan Sabancı (b. 1971, Istanbul) has opened at the Troy Museum near Çanakkale, Turkey, curated by Paolo Colombo. Running until June 25, 2025, the show is the latest installment in Sabancı's ongoing 'Emanet' series, which explores trust, interconnectedness, and memory through sculpture, ceramics, drawing, and installation. The artist, currently pursuing an MFA at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, draws inspiration from Homer's Iliad, mythology, nature, and philosophy. The exhibition features ceramic sculptures evoking birds and botanical forms, large drawings using natural pigments from Bayburt, and a chain-like 'umbilical cord' sculpture inspired by a necklace from her grandmother. Sound elements include recordings of birds mentioned in the Iliad and an Anatolian folk tale narrated by the artist. The show is organized in collaboration with Prof. Rüstem Aslan, director of the Troy Archaeological Excavations, and Rıdvan Gölcük, director of the Troy Museum. Previous institutional presentations of 'Emanet' were held at Baksı Museum (2023) and MSGSU Tophane-i Amire (2024).
