Vuk Ćosić's ASCII Cinema and Game-Based Works in Perth Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-19

Vuk Ćosić's inaugural solo exhibition in Scotland was hosted at Threshold artspace in Perth from August 1 to November 1, 2009. This event showcased a mini-retrospective of his artistic journey since the late 1990s, with an emphasis on presentations in public spaces. A standout installation, The Threshold Wave, featured twenty-two LCD screens displaying iconic films in green-on-black ASCII code, such as King Kong (1933) and The Matrix (1999). Ćosić's ASCII Cinema project serves as a connection between film and digital cultures. Additional works included ASCII Unreal (1999-2009), Game Flags (2009), History of Art for Airports (1997-2009), and File Extinguisher (1998-2005). Curated by Iliyana Nedkova, the exhibition highlighted public interaction and showcased influences from Dada and Surrealism.
