Voyeurism Explored in Group Exhibition at Louis B. James Gallery

Louis B. James Gallery presented the group exhibition "Rear Window Treatment" from December 11, 2014 to January 17, 2015 at 143b Orchard Street in New York. The show featured six artists examining voyeurism, implicating viewers in the act. Betty Tompkins displayed small ink drawings and photographs from 2012-2014, more reserved than her explicit "Fuck Paintings" from 1969. Michael Mahalchick's Acid Rain (2014) consisted of folded cardboard DVD covers from porn films, while Deric Carner's Tip If You Love Me (2014) offered touch-screen tablets streaming live-cam pornography from chaturbate.com. Barb Choit presented photographs of neighbors through windows, and William E. Jones showed Mansfield 1962 (2006), edited archival footage from a 1962 police sting operation in a public bathroom where men were prosecuted under sodomy laws. Brad Phillips contributed four watercolors titled Your Miroslav Tichý (2014), inspired by Czech photographer Miroslav Tichý (1926-2011), who photographed women in public in Kyjov. The exhibition title references Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 film Rear Window starring Jimmy Stewart.
