Von Glitschka Holiday Card Tutorial Using Adobe Capture and Illustrator
Von Glitschka published a tutorial on Abduzeedo demonstrating how to create a holiday card using Adobe Capture CC and Illustrator CC. The process begins with a rough sketch on paper, inked with a brush pen. Using Adobe Capture CC, the ink artwork is transformed into a digital vector image, with adjustments to exposure and detail via slide controls. Unwanted elements like the pen are removed using select/deselect sliders. Assets are saved to Creative Cloud Libraries via CreativeSync, enabling access across Illustrator CC and Photoshop CC. Glitschka captures inspiration from anime manga patches to develop a color theme, saving swatches to CC Libraries. In Illustrator CC, colors are added loosely with the Pen tool, and the line work is shifted to a darker blue instead of black. Custom brushes are created by capturing hand-painted strokes with black acrylic paint, then cropping and filtering in Adobe Capture CC. The brushes automatically appear in Illustrator CC's CC Libraries panel. The type is hand-lettered using scanned sketches and the Pen tool. A repeat pattern of snowflakes is created by adjusting opacity and entering Pattern Editing mode. Three color iterations are explored, with a green scheme chosen for the final card. The project took approximately 3 hours.
