festival-fair · 2026-04-27

Volterra, named the first Città Toscana della Cultura 2022, has unveiled a nine-month program of 300 events from April 2 to December 2022. The program centers on human regeneration through culture, divided into five themes: include, cure, innovate, tell, and territory. Key projects include a concert by Vinicio Capossela with Armando Punzo and the Compagnia della Fortezza (April 2), a performance by Mariangela Capossela at the former psychiatric hospital (June), design workshops with Luisa Bocchietto (June), a 3D exhibition by game designer Fabio Viola, and a community songbook by poet Franco Arminio. The Festival della Ri-generazione Umana will feature historic performances by Compagnia della Fortezza in six locations, including the Roman Theatre of Volterra (July 21) and the Geothermal Park of Larderello (August 4). Exhibitions include Marco Lodola (April 2), a dialogue between Rosso Fiorentino and Michelangelo Pistoletto (July–November), Mino Trafeli (centenary), Mauro Staccioli, and Raffaello Consortini. Emergency's 'Artefici di Pace' (April 8–18) raises funds for a pediatric surgical center in Entebbe, Uganda, designed by Renzo Piano. The title was awarded by the Tuscany Region after Volterra was a finalist for Italian Capital of Culture 2022.
