Volte Masters Opens with Manjit Bawa Show in Dubai

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Volte Art Projects launches Volte Masters, a new modern art space within its 743-square meter gallery in Alserkal Avenue, Dubai, on 27 February. The inaugural exhibition, I Was Born A Poet…, features rare paintings and drawings by Manjit Bawa (1941-2008), a major figure in 20th-century Indian figuration. The show runs until 30 April, with plans for further presentations of seminal Indian and international artists. Bawa's work emphasized expressive figuration inspired by India's spirit, music, literature, and poetry, exploring human-animal relationships through childhood memories and myths. He lived and worked in New Delhi, with past solo shows at the Nehru Centre, London, and galleries in the UK (2005), New Delhi (2005), Mumbai, Hong Kong (2002), and New York (2000). His works have been featured at the Centre for International Modern Art (CIMA), the Royal Academy, London, and Hirshhorn Museum, Washington DC.
