VOLTA Basel 2025: 20th Edition in New Hall 4.U Space with 65+ Galleries
VOLTA Basel, a satellite fair of Art Basel, celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025 with a move to Hall 4.U at Messeplatz 21, adjacent to Art Basel. The fair runs from June 19 to 22, hosting over 65 exhibitors from more than 20 countries, up from 45 in 2024. Artistic director Lee Cavaliere continues her tenure, emphasizing the fair's legacy of presenting emerging and audacious art. The new venue allows for expansion amid a recovering emerging market. Notable returning galleries include Creative Growth (Oakland, USA), a non-profit whose works are in MoMA, SFMOMA, Smithsonian, and Collection de L'Art Brut, and Galleri Ramfjord (Oslo, Norway), presenting Moldovan artist Valeria Duca. Newcomers include Galerie One (Paris, France) showing Liu Bolin, Graham Contemporary (Johannesburg, South Africa), and Fabienne Levy (Lausanne and Geneva, Switzerland). The SOLO section features Trafo Gallery (Prague, Czech Republic) with Jakub Nepraš's mixed-media and digital works, and ADRIAN SUTTON GALLERY (Paris and Brussels) presenting painter Adéla Janská. Special initiatives include free admission for Basel residents on June 20 and the MENA Pavilion curated by Randa Sadaka, focusing on the Middle East, UAE, and North Africa, with galleries from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, Iran, and Lebanon, some making their European debut. The fair was founded in 2005 by a group of gallerists led by Amanda Coulson and also has an edition in New York.
