Volta Art Fair Cancelled Due to Armory Show Relocation to Pier 90
With less than two weeks remaining before its scheduled opening, the Volta art fair in New York has been cancelled. Organizers have committed to providing full refunds to all exhibitors and sponsors. This cancellation resulted from the Armory Show's forced relocation from Pier 92 to Pier 90, prompted by structural concerns at the original venue. Both events are owned by Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc., which described the decision as unavoidable given the last-minute circumstances. Volta, which focuses on emerging galleries and presentations of one or two artists, was set to feature 70 galleries. The Armory Show opens on 6 March 2019, with about one-third of its exhibitors affected by the move to Pier 90, located a short walk south of Pier 94. The relocation of the Armory Show sections necessitated the cancellation of Volta, which was planned for the same pier.
