exhibition · 2026-04-23

The exhibition 'VKHUTEMAS: o futuro em construção' at Sesc Pompeia in São Paulo celebrates the centenary of the Soviet university institution, presenting around 300 works by 75 artists from its 100 members and over 2,500 students. Curated by Neide Jallageas and Celso Lima, it marks the first major presentation of VKHUTEMAS-related works in the Americas, featuring pieces recreated for the show. Founded by a decree from Vladimir Lenin in 1918 through the merger of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and the Stroganov School of Applied Arts, the institution was driven by the Russian Revolution's desire to train art professionals. It was based on avant-garde aesthetic thought, including futurism, rationalism, suprematism, and constructivism. The exhibition includes works by notable names like Ródtchenko, Popova, Tátlin, and Kandinski, ranging from clothing and bathroom hydraulic floors to furniture and ceramic objects, showcasing a vast array of creations from the movement. The show runs until September 30.
