Vittorio Sgarbi elected mayor of Arpino, adds to institutional roles
Vittorio Sgarbi, Italy's Undersecretary of Culture, has been elected mayor of Arpino, a town of under 7,000 inhabitants in the province of Frosinone. Sgarbi won with 2,023 votes, defeating two civic list candidates, Andrea Chietini and Gianluca Quadrini. He previously served as mayor of Sutri (Viterbo) and Salemi (Sicily). Sgarbi plans to restore the Madonna in the La Cona locality, organize an exhibition on Cavalier d'Arpino (Giuseppe Cesari) and Caravaggio with support from Rome and Naples, and propose Arpino as a European Capital of Culture in connection with the Certamen Ciceronianum. He also holds positions as assessor to beauty in Viterbo, pro-mayor of Urbino, commissioner for the Arts of Codogno, president of the Fondazione Ferrara Arte, Mart in Trento, Mag in Riva del Garda, and the Gypsotheca of Canova. He was elected regional councilor in Lombardy in February 2023 but left due to incompatibility.
