Vittorio Sgarbi Appointed President of Fondazione Canova Onlus

Vittorio Sgarbi has been named President of the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Canova Onlus in Possagno, Treviso. The appointment was announced by the city's mayor, Valerio Favero, who expressed confidence in Sgarbi's vast culture and art knowledge to lead the foundation through four years of Canovian celebrations starting July 2019. Sgarbi succeeds Franca Coin, who served three years and spearheaded restorations and international collaborations. The foundation oversees the Gypsotheca e Museo Antonio Canova, which houses plaster models, the artist's birthplace, library, and archives. The celebrations mark the bicentenary of the Tempio di Possagno's first stone (July 11, 2019) and Canova's death (October 13, 2022).
