Vittorio Sgarbi Appointed National Head for Cultural Heritage Valorization by ANCI

Vittorio Sgarbi, art critic, historian, and current president of several cultural foundations including Fondazione Canova Onlus, MART, and Fondazione Ferrara Arte, as well as a member of parliament and mayor of Sutri, has been appointed national head for the valorization of historical and cultural heritage by ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities). The appointment was made by ANCI's national president Antonio Decaro, mayor of Bari. Sgarbi will monitor regulatory developments and public policies concerning cultural heritage. He had expressed interest in the role at least a month prior, advocating for a revitalized ANCI that amplifies the voices of Italy's smaller historic towns and lesser-known cultural sites. Sgarbi's new role adds to his already numerous institutional commitments, including a potential mayoral candidacy for Rome under his 'Rinascimento' movement founded in 2017. The post-lockdown period highlighted the need to decongest tourist flows from major cities and promote broader territorial cultural valorization.
